“This event has been a great success, raising approximately £1,000 for Sport Relief 2016. We would like to thank everyone for taking part, especially the athletes and boxers who took time out of their busy training schedules to help us raise this amount.”

Fundraisers at The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance, based within the heart of the East Manchester community and the city’s Regeneration Hub, jumped on their bikes to raise cash for Sport Relief 2016.
The challenge was to cycle for as many miles as possible using exercise bikes in the facility’s environmental chamber, which was set to Rio temperatures of approximately 29°C and 80% humidity.
The 42 participants included Jade Jones MBE, gold medallist Taekwondo athlete, and other members of GB Taekwondo, professional boxers Anthony Crolla, current WBA world lightweight champion, and the Smith brothers; Steven, Paul Jnr and Callum, MIHP and EIS staff and consultants.

Sorrelle Wagster, General Manager of The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance said: “We all had great fun taking part in this challenge and managed to complete over 535 miles as a group, which surpassed our expectations. An amazing achievement for everyone involved.

Michael Stow, Operations Manager at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) added: “I’m really proud of my colleagues from EIS and MIHP for getting behind the fundraising activity for such a deserving cause.
“Sport Relief gets bigger and better every time, and it has been brilliant to see such enthusiasm for this year’s event from everyone at MIHP and also our athletes who dedicated their time to the cycle challenge.”
HCA Healthcare UK donated £1 for every mile that was cycled and participants were asked to donate a minimum of £2 for taking part in the challenge.
