Our Imaging Services

3T MRI

MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) is an essential tool for diagnosing soft tissue injuries and other conditions. The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance offers high-quality imaging with the GE Discovery 3T MRI scan.

Our 3T MRI is faster and more powerful than a 1.5T MRI and yields exceptional anatomic detail. It is particularly useful for viewing soft tissue which is surrounded by bone, such as the brain and spinal cord, and for identifying sports injuries such as ACL ruptures, meniscus and labral tears.

MRI examinations are very safe and the system has been designed to put client comfort first. The scanner itself has a wide bore and feet-first procedures to reduce anxiety and claustrophobia. The table surface has special variable density padding to minimize pressure points for a more relaxing examination.

DEXA

DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is an established tool for measuring bone mineral density and body composition, and has a wide number of applications for sports science and medicine.

The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance offers whole body imaging using the DEXA scanner. The advanced system’s precision detects small or statistically significant changes earlier, which can guide training and treatment decisions.

DEXA has a unique role in diagnostic assessments for both health and performance. It can establish bone health, stress injuries and fracture risk, and particularly the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in patients.

As a technique, DEXA is one of the best ways to assess muscle mass and body fat, with results helping to optimise nutrition and muscle development.

DEXA

The short procedure is painless, with a lower radiation dose than other X-ray techniques. It is performed in our dedicated DEXA consultation suite.
